Stories of M: the good and the bad

~ mean mommy
Shes four.  That there should say enough but as we know it kids are testing their boundaries and exploring personalities.  In this case, she was testing more and more of her boundaries. "Its time for bed" and for M that is a much hated statement.   I don't even really recall what happened or how it got to this point but the overall senerio was a bad domino effect on failing to listen to mommy.  She's clearly frustrated and im clearly frustrated and I let the anger take over.
(posing in her new outfit)

Few things to keep in mind:  1.  I had to take her Little Mermaid movie away 2. as a result from disobedience we will shut her door at night(which she loathes), otherwise we keep it wide open. 3.  I don't like her to watch shows at bedtime but somehow for the past few weeks she's been watching them in her room.

There I am, frustration building, a screaming/crying child who can't obey what i asked her to do.  So after taking her movie away and still no cooperation I had to threaten the shut the door if she couldn't settle down(which usually works, she'll calm down.)  Instead she swipes the movie from me and runs to her tv. Upset, i bopped her on the bum(which i try my best to not spank, i hate it) I followed through with my discipline and took the movie from her, quickly exited the door and shut it, locked it.  (we can lock it from the outside.)

So upset, she cried and hollered...

"Don't shut the door!" "don't shut the door!"

(with nightlight  on i might add) kicking and banging on the door.  I repeated the reason for why i had the door shut and reminded her of the consequence.  After 10 seconds of a tired, scared little girl...what I heard next softened my heart and my frustration melted.

M in her cracked, emotional little voice said : "You wanna watch Dora?"

She answered herself saying " yeah....." following a few "hiccup" whimpers.

she was soothing herself and talking to herself...mending the situation.  I immediately felt terrible that i wished I could be the one to soothe her and help her know i acknowledge her feelings.  Instantly being reminded that little children can't handle disappointment well and when tired can't reason either.  I quickly threw open the door and grabbed her and held her...in fact, her initial reaction was "retreat' for fear of mommy.  So i reassured her with a soft

"come here, let me hold you."
(one of many times we'll find her passed out on the floor)

I rocked her on the bed and dried her tears.  I told her mommy was sorry for getting mad and that I would stay with her while watching her show.
Laid her under her covers and watching Dora, i laid next to her on her bed till she recovered from the whimpers and I told her I loved her.
She replied " I wove you mommy."

This one is kinda funny and sad.
~Misunderstandings

Its morning.  Breakfast time.  M loves her cereal its the first thing that comes out of her mouth every morning..." Mommy? I wan c-ole" (mommy? i want cereal)  The cereal I got for her this time was the captain crunch berries. You know? this one:
Lately shes been eating ONLY the berries and not the yellow ones, leaving wasted money and an hour later hungry girl.   So this morning when i dished her a bowl i said to her:
"Now, Em, i need you to eat the yellow ones too, okay?"
With reluctance in her voice she said "O-Kay, mommy." To which i responded "thank you".

shortly after, M asks me while i was standing in the kitchen...
" Mommy?...can i eat the circle ones now?"
Confusion.   I walked over to her to better understand.  When i looked down i see only the  berries in her bowl. I was shocked because that 1st split second i didn't understand the "why" in she didn't eat them.  Then......., Awe :(.  She had been so diligent in following thru with what she thought I asked her to do.  She must have thought I meant eat the yellow ones first. lol, i felt so bad for her.  Poor thing, here she is eating the "boring" yellow ones while slowly watching her favorite berries get soggy. :(  I felt so sad for her that she misunderstood me.
I responded:  " oh hunny, I meant be sure to eat the yellow and the berries."
Moral? be more simple and straight forward in a way children understand.   and .....Reiterate!
(such a sweet Big sister)

I love you, my sweet girl!

Hows the House Hunting coming along?

Funny you should ask. There is a particular house that I have not mentioned here on this blog...reason?...well I wouldn't want anyone to steal from me now would I? No, that wouldn't be a good thing... Its going into auction soon this month but we are hoping(from some news under the table) that by resubmitting our offer, we hope the bank will accept before it goes. It has a pool and a decent lot with alot of square footage, awesome floorplan, and basically I can't stop thinking about it. I feel like i am the girlfriend who got the rug swept right out from under her and was ''dumped", and no matter how hard I try(to move on) I still want him back. Yeah, its a LoveSick senario. (sigh) So we are due to submit the offer tomorrow. Tho, I still feel the same, like Im never gonna get this house, that it will fall through(AGAIN). But Im pretty sure that whatever happens it'll be for the best. Sides, there is one OTHER house of which My EyE Spot yesterday. Ohhhh me Likie! So, as for us? Well we are in for the winter. Sorry Nancy, I guess you're stuck with us a little longer, but we are very thankful. luv, Aezra And for your viewing pleasures, a few videos from us ...well....from M. Here. Here. and Here and Here

OURtoberfest

Being that the Hubs was in Utah we decided to hit up our local Oktoberfest, just M and I. Since nobody was willing to accompany us. We arrived about 6:30, loaded the stroller, and started the adventure alone. Now one may say Im brave, that makes me feel good, for going alone. But it wouldn't be the first that i've undertaken an adventure without the Hubs. In fact, I drove 3 hrs with a 4 month old all by my self to a place i'd never been. Now that was a pit-sweater! But I did it then and so this was nothing. Going to the heart of Mesa, @ 7pm, two year old in tow, sporting the single mama appearance, with crowds of ppl...this was Nothing. I'd say that the most scariest part of the night was getting from the far ended-baron-quiet-creepy-dim-lit parking lot to the actual event. No husband(or friend for that matter) there to protect me from whatever lurked behind the shadows. I scurried a bit to get there just so that it looked as if i was meeting someone while running late(didn't want to look like an easy-target). So there we were, two lanes of trafficking ppl, live band music in the background, the smell of hot coals and hotdogs, and a whole strip of stores etc for us to partake in. The feelings of regret dissipated soon filled by "ou, that looks good!", " wish I had money for that!". Shortly after walking I realized neither of us ate any supper. So those hotdogs became the answer to my question. M got a hotdog, chips, and a lemonade while I on the other hand tried for the first time a Bratwurst. And after the first swallow of it I realized it should have been called "Brat-WORST". Yuck! i couldn't stand the thing, its flavoring, everything was all wrong. The coke and chips soon became my supper but at least M enjoyed her dog. Photobucket Photobucket ( you can't really tell but I busted out an old gift(new boots) and put her in a cute blue dress.) She looked so hip, ppl were saying "wow, she dresses better than I do." Sorry, I didn't bring my camera along but my phone came in handy so I snapped two. I wasn't really planning on buying anything with my paycheck but it just so happens I walked by and glanced at a pair of earrings I just had to have. As I handed over the cash and oogled at the earrings I didn't feel too bad paying the $8. I was quite surprised...events like this usually charge an arm-and-a-leg for anything sold there. Guess the economy had something to do with that. :o) But the best part of the whole dang thing was the Antique Store. Oh I just LOVE antiques stores. The smell of old things, dust, and good finds...it just can't get any better to wrap up my night. (ok, maybe if i stumbled upon $1000 bucks it would) Because I know where the first and last place it would be spent. Darling things are just everywhere. There was this basket and in it it had vintage make-up compacts and lipsticks with these intricate designs and ware-and-tear. Old worn books on book selves, old hats on hat posts, vintage tri-cycle, adorable 40's metal fan, and a white crystal punch bowl set. I always keep my eye out for punch bowl sets and one of these days I hope I find it. It was getting late, M was restless and whining. I was very sad to leave, to not find a single treasure for me to bring home. But of course being stingey with my money I couldn't find one thing worth the money and it had to be something i would find use out of or use as home decor. So I was leaving the store when I passed a shelf with a little pink flowered tea cup on it. I squealed with joy but hesitant to look at the price tag. It read [$6.43]. ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Cha, I know right! Now thats what im talking about So then get this...I get up to the reg and the lady says $3.57 please. Just my good looks i suppose. hahah j/k nah, i think b/c of the event they were taking off a percentage. Soo Happy! So this is taking too long, so to shorten: -the hot dog guy saw my shoes and commented " If I were a girl, I'd definitely where those shoes. I like them alot" and he didn't seem gay to me. I think he might have been being nice b/c he thought i was a single mom. (shrug) -walked back to the car to find that someone had place a sticker on the rear saying "KEEP RIGHT except to pass" . ??? yeah, no clue who'd do that. In fact, i thought it was pretty funny. Mine was the only car that got tagged. -M was still to wired...so I decided to let her out of her stroller and walk a bit. 1 hour later after walking( i mean RUNNING) back and forth across the strip, she was wearing down so we walked back and drove home! Lets just say, it was a very good night together. :0)

A day for Swimming

This is she... This is Me... We are waiting as you can see
Waiting to get wet that is. My sweet friend introduced these floaties to me and they are absolutely Wonderful! Sweet M was havin' a ball....she and I were both hesitant to get into the water( we are such pansies) When the water is cool and your skin is hot its a little intense at first.
Shortly after she and I couldn't stop giggling. I was laughing at her, she was laughing by the sensations of having cool water wash against her neck. She would shrug her shoulders and laugh through her teeth. And i think it was exciting for her to be off by herself except for holding onto my finger. Occasionally she would face forward into the water and breathe it in causing her to gasp and chock. Water would drain from her nostrils and then she assist it with a big sneeze. funniest thing. we spent a good hour and a half just in and out of the water, getting a drink, getting rained on, getting the ball...It was memorable for Mommy. Yes I did mention rain. For some 5 minutes the partly clouded day felt it necessary to dump rain right above the pool. Funny thing to witness when the sun is shining and rain is falling all around you. Unpleasant feeling when a droplet slashes into the pool then into your eye.
But all in all, it was a day for swimming.
