The Wet Microburst

So Emmery and I went outside around 6:50pm Monday night and I was letting her play around and I noticed we had some clouds that looked kinda dark off in the distance. So i didn't think much of it. So @ 7pm I go inside to start getting emm ready for bed and I am inside her room sittin next to the window reading her books. About 7:07pm i hear rain falling outside and i look out the window of Emm's room and im watching the rain fall and I loved it. Just drizzling rain, right? Wrong! Sean calls to me down stairs that he needed to put the car windows up. Okay. Then all of a sudden as i watch the rain the unthinkable happened. I noticed the wind picking up because it made the rain fall kinda funny and then it got LOUDER. Then the next thing its starts pouring and then mother nature turned on her large fan. The rain was in swirls and layers in the sky. The trees' waved the branches as if they were head banging in a band. Whooshing this way and that. Then the cracking started and flashes of light. Sean had been out there for no longer than 2 minutes and he came running inside to get outta the 35 mile winds and rain. It happened so FAST. we never saw it coming. So i ran down stairs with Emmery grabbed my camera b/c i just couldn't believe how hard it was blowing outside. These pictures do it NO justice. this shot was taken in slow motion. 2 min. of rain pour in street there. Then the sky turned this reddish yellow. It was scary...i was beginning to think that a micro burst was about to happen or a tornado for that matter. It came from this direction...the tree was beginning to bend here. The rain and wind would spray so hard in your face..it kinda hurt. I have been outside about a minute now and the sky was still turing this color. If you look closely you can see the water flooding. The wind picked up even more that i had to hide behind a pole like this pole parallel to it just to keep from being blown over, I am NOT kidding.
Can you see the waves of rain in the picturebelow?
Then the lightening got to close and the sky got darker, i didn't feel anymore security of the pole so i ran two yards to my door and bounded inside.(it was hard to shut the door).

YOu can't really see the full effect but my entire backside got soaked Just from those few seconds running to the door. The wind was blowing so hard the rain turned sideways.

I was scared because the windows began to bulge and suck back out and the rain was sideways hitting our windows. It was the sound of b-b gun pellets hitting the windows. I told sean i was scared and so was he. At this point it was about 7.30pm and I heard water hitting the floor. It was dripping heavily through the window b/c this was the side of the house that got hit the worst and it cracked the cement and began to leak above the window seal. This pic was after 2 mins of leaking. Look at it, its half full.

It just kept on coming in so i ran to get the towels. We had to keep the towels rinsed out. So we put towels on the floor.
Then of course the lights went out. But the good thing was that about 5 mins later the wind began to back down. I told sean the winds had to have been blowing over 50 miles an hour.
Sure thing, later the news confirmed it got to 60 miles an hour.

Around 8:45 is was safe to leave. So as we were ready to leave and stay at Nancy's the lights came on. At this point it had calmed down completely and the water levels dropped dramatically.

So about 9 we went for a drive to inspect the damage. All we could hear outside were ppl and sirens wailing. Half the trees in our neighborhood were uprooted. This house is across the street from us.

So here are some shoots i took. this tree fell over the driveway.

This is what all of our yards looked like, lakes hence the water reflecting the lights. As we drove mostly we saw was debris on the road and flashing lights and firetrucks

Another shot of a house in our neighborhood

This was at our walgreens on Recker and Main. Poor guy, im sure he works there.

Holy cow Ashley...those are incredible pictures. We were at the diamondbacks game during the storm so we just came home to a HUGE mess to clean up. I think ALL of our neighbors have our pool toys all over their yard. I'm glad you guys are okay though......great job on the pictures and the post!
