As to what I am speaking of which some of you may know already...that Sean hurt his back again. A week ago Today, Sean called me up and begged me to pick him up from work. It was an accident and in no way out of the ordinary. Somehow he tweaked his back and through Thursday to Friday was taking the pain meds given to him last time. However they were not working well but enough to ease the pain a little. Then after a day and half of rest, Sean decided it was mandatory that he go to work on Friday. Early morning about 6am I wake up to a moaning and groaning man walking up the stairs. It was Sean coming back from work. He left home to get to work by 5am, got there and couldn't sit down, so he decided to leave b/c the pain was so great. The car ride to work did him in...somehow pinching his nerve to which caused his foot and right leg to go numb. Sean ,being in eminence pain ,drove home. Can you imagine driving home on the freeway with a RIGHT leg and a foot you CAN'T FEEL?!?!?! Thank God he came home to us in one piece.
Sean needed to get help so Sean's mom thankfully was able to take him to the Emergency room. He had been there before a few months back and the doctors gave him the same dose of medicine that had helped rid his pain before. But to all their dismay, Sean was still in horrible back crunching pain. So they gave him a dose, and then another dose and then ANOTHER DOSE and Sean was so drugged up, so out of it and he still complained of the pain being too great. Sean could not remove himself from the cradle position or else the pain would consume him. Sean finally told them to stop..that it wasn't going to help anymore.
By the end of the day around 4pm, Sean was home in bed and sleeping again. Poor guy had a long rough day.
It was nice that the weekend came so he could rest his back before going back to work. Which I am happy to say he did and did very well, other than the fact that he slept most the day. Pain meds make him drowsy. It has been a week since and he is doing much better. He can sleep through the night and move better now.
But what lies in question is whether or not to get back surgery. Sean swore to himself that if this happened to him one more time that he was set on getting back surgery. Now, I was against it at first but now I see that every time he hurts his back, it damages his nerve which disables Sean's leg and foot to work properly. It takes months to get it back to almost normal. Nerve damage is irreversible and we don't have the time to wait around for the next accident to happen only to have it ruin his nerve and ruin the functionality of his leg. Its been three years since his first back injury and has had way to many nerve problems in between then and now.
Oh, What to do? what to do?
